Participant Facing Documents

INFORMATION SHEET

As with my Ethical Enquiry Form, I used the Information Sheet example given to us as a base and amended to make it more relevant to my own project. Version 1 was written at about the same time as version 2 of the EE form, so still had some to-ing and fro-ing in terms of not knowing how to document the data, and how many actions I was going to do and what methodologies to use.

The feedback on my first draft made me realise that I was writing the information sheet like I was talking to another academic rather than a student. As a student facing document I needed to adapt the language to make it understandable and relatable. Similar to the EE form I was reminded of what would be achievable within the time frame and reduce the number of actions I would have to do as the researcher, but also what I would be expecting of the students in such a small time frame. I rewrote the second draft after my ethics form was approved to ensure that they worked hand in hand with each other.

PARTICIPANT CONSENT FORM

The first draft of participant consent form was essentially the example we were provided, just with my question at the top and a few words changed. Again it was written round about draft 2 of the EE form so – it’s uncertainty on ideas is reflected.

There wasn’t any written feedback for my consent form, however after the 4th version of my EE form I knew what I needed to change and include to make it explicitly clear what they were consenting to. In particular around audio recording, the storage and use of that data and the anonymity of participants potentially sharing private information within the focus group.
